Sunday Voice Nets – Noisy but Still Making It Happen

Hello TAPRN,

Thanks to everyone for being patient the last three weeks during the Sunday Voice Nets.  It’s been pretty noisy, from QRM to QRN and everything inbetween, but it’s been good practice to find open frequencies on a busy band and carefully listen for folks (and/or perform relays) in less than desirable conditions.  Kudos to everyone!

Despite the rough conditions, participation has been very good (anywhere between 15-20 folks), and we’ve even had two or three folks still checking in via the chat room when it’s too noisy for them that particular week.  Special thanks to those who have made suggestions on topics.  Last week we discussed how to protect electronics against EMPs and CMEs.  Tonight we covered things to consider if you ever need to temporarily or permanently bug out – locations, routes, how to move a lot of items or heavy gear quickly, etc.  Lots of good comments, and as always, enjoyable to hear everyone’s ideas.

One idea for next week’s topic is aquaponics.  So God willing, we’ll have our next Sunday Net 3/3/13 at 9pm EST.  Our default frequency is 3.818, but more than likely we’ll be a bit higher due to QRM.

As always, if someone has a suggestion for a topic, please feel free to comment here and we’ll do our best to fit it in during the upcoming weeks.

Long Live the Republic,

GeorgiaJack

    GeorgiaJack,
Try as I may, I have not been able to hear anything of the Net for the last three weeks. How do the participants keep up or find the frequency as you move.
I am especially disappointed over missing the discussion about EMP and CMEs. I think this is a very important topic.
Are there notes from the discussion? I have done a great deal of research and found minimal and even contradicting information.
Maybe I could directly contact someone that is particularly knowledgable.
Can you share a name and email.
Look forward to future contact on the Net.
    Thank you.

    Chuck,
Concerning keeping up or finding the frequency:
1 – TAPRN chat room right before we start, for those who have internet and as long as it’s available
2 – if the chat room is not available, search up the band first.

We do our best to stay as close to the default 3.818 frequency as possible. There is another net (not ours) on 3.816 just before ours starts (regularly the last couple of months), so in order to avoid that QRM, at minimum, we try 3.819. This past Sunday we were on 3.819. It simply depends on the very busy band. If someone is on 3.820 before we start, then as you can imagine, we try 3.823, and so forth and so forth until we find a clear frequency to use. I wish I had a more concrete answer for you.

I don’t have notes from the discussions, sorry. I would have suggested going to the “Listen to APRN live” link (on the righthand side) because usually KD8FDF records our nets (along with a lot of other nets, etc), but unfortunately, on that particular night, we had to move to another frequency after we started, so the recording does not contain that info.

Concerning EMP/CMEs, I completely understand what you mean about finding contradicting information out there. I had mentioned that exact concern on the net.

This Sunday we’ll ask if someone is available to provide you some good info.

We hope to hear you soon on TAPRN Net.

    Long Live the Republic,
    GeorgiaJack

With havin so much content do you ever run into any issues of plagorism or copyright infringement?
My blog has a lot of completely unique content I’ve either authored myself or outsourced but it appears a lot of it is popping it up all over the internet without my agreement. Do you know any methods to help protect against content from being stolen? I’d
    really appreciate it.
